According to Climanoticias, for the first time in the last 20 years the spanish energy consumption upwards trend is changing, which will improve Spain's competitiveness. 2006 saw direct savings equivalent to 1.3 million tons of fuel; that is, the energy equivalent to the total primary energy consumption of a 350,000 inhabitants city; or a 1.12% reduction of future consumption, which means CO2 emissions will decrease by 3.5 million tons.
Among implemented
measures, one can highlight the replacement, under RENOVE programme, of
650,000 household appliances with more efficient ones; more than 5,000
interventions in buildings and surrounding areas (to reduce energy
demand in heating and refrigeration through the application of energy
efficiency requirements); drafting of more than 70 urban mobility
programmes; implementation of 715 hybrid vehicles; training of hundreds
of technicians and municipal or agricultural energy managers; 400
public lighting saving measures; and also several public awareness
campaigns. |
