To address future market needs, Arkema,
a major player in blowing agents for polyurethane and polyisocyanurate
insulating foams in construction, is in the process of developing HFO (hydrofluorolefins), the fourth generation blowing agents to replace
HFCs, the current
generation fluid.
According to Arkema, the next generation will enjoy a better environmental
performance while maintaining the general properties including insulation
properties for rigid polyurethane foams.
As shown at the Utech
conferences (Maastricht - March 31st to April 2nd 2009), Arkema has developed a
series of zero ODP (Ozone Depleting Potential) and low GWP (Global
Warming Potential) blowing solutions that feature a similar blowing
efficiency and provide some improvement in dimensional stability as well as a
significant advantage on k-factor versus actual HFCs and hydrocarbons.
