uaigThis year’s edition of the Technical Meeting “Solar Food Processing” will be held on 30th May at Instituto Superior de Engenharia, Universidade do Algarve, Portugal, and will be presented and discussed by experts in solar cooking industry. This meeting is well know as an international meeting and was presented as the International Solar Cookers and Solar Food Processing Conference in Granada (Spain) and the International Solar Food Processing Conference 2009 in Indore, (India).

 

According to the press release, the meeting on 30th May 2009 in Faro-Algarve (Portugal) aims to share technologies, concepts and strategies of using the sun as a main energy supply for food processing and to share knowledge and form collaborations to widen the access to solar cooking, water purification and related solar food processing applications, since it plays an important role in reducing health and environmental hazards and poverty and improving local economic opportunities by implementation of technologies for food processing and conservation through solar energy.

 

Successes and hindrances in practice examples of cooperation and networking will be presented by invited experts having large practical experience in the field. In addition, pioneered solar steam kitchens in India cooking for thousands of people daily and solar thermal power plants using Scheffler reflectors will be presented. The integration of storage energy and back-up systems in order to ensure sustainable energy supply in food processing industries will be also discussed.
