EPEE, the voice of the
heating, cooling and refrigeration industry in Europe, welcomes the strong
stance taken by the Parliament on an revision of the law on energy performance of buildings that has a real
impact on building design and consumer awareness of efficiency of buildings and
pushes for more uniformed rules across the EU so that real comparisons can be
made.
Considering that buildings
account for 40% of EU energy consumption, the introduction of a common
calculation and assessment methodology for the energy performance of buildings
should make it easier to calculate the performance of different buildings in
different climatic zones.
EPPE also
applauds the Parliament on its strong case for increased use of efficient
renewable technologies, like heat pumps, which will also be a powerful
contributor towards the European renewable energy use targets of 20% by 2020.
This vote by the European Parliament is a clear indication of the
political willingness in the EU to achieve its efficiency targets and increased
use of renewable technologies such as heat pumps. We hope that national
governments will follow the lead set by the European Parliament, said Friedrich Busch,
Director General of EPEE.
