ANEFRYC, National Association of Refrigeration and Cooling Companies, is delighted with the conclusion of the proceedings by the authorities in relation to the legionella outbreak in July and August last year, in Alcoy, that point to a spring of water without biocide treatment as its origin.

According to the reports requested by the authorities, it has been demonstrated that the outbreak was spread through a tanker and a milling machine used in the resurfacing of various areas of the city, which used ANEFRYCwater from a source without biocide treatment one which, coupled with high temperatures typical of July and August, led to the outbreak in Alcoy.

However, it is recalled that after the first known cases of this outbreak, the Ministry of Health of the Valencia Community reported that the source of the outbreak was an active cooling tower out of control.

ANEFRYC recalls, once again, the importance of not creating for free and without justification alarm around the evaporative cooling equipment, as well as the importance of formally notify the result of actions carried out to identify the source of the outbreak and publicize the conclusions of the health and judicial researches.
