Paul KingAccording to BSRIA, that has accredited DEC engineers and that can provide practical advice to improve energy efficiency, notices that the UK government has published a consultation paper which sets out proposals for extending DECs to all non-domestic buildings.

The UK Green Buildings Council (UK-GBC) says it is "delighted" that government is "committed to examine phasing out the worst performing buildings." Paul King, chief executive of the UK Green Building Council, said: "Phasing out the worst performing buildings by setting minimum energy standards is essential."

"There comes a point when...a building cannot be leased or sold without major improvements. The industry needs clarity on future requirements and this helps give certainty on which investment decisions can be based," he added.
