The last few years have
witnessed a dramatic change in the energy policy environment and this is leading
to a raft of energy efficiency policy initiatives that are set to significantly
change the market conditions for international HVAC markets. Paul Waide, Senior
Policy Analyst at the International Energy Agency explains.
In the last three years there has been a sharp rise in the focus given to
energy efficiency in energy ministries across the 26 member countries of the
International Energy Agency and this is leading to substantial changes in policy
environments with important implications for the HVAC and refrigeration
industry. Major new policy initiatives have been launched and are set to be
strengthened in all the major global economies as governments apply themselves to the challenge
of realising the substantial cost effective energy savings that have been
identified. This article reviews why this change in emphasis has come about,
what it already means for the HVAC industry and what changes might be expected in
