With a capacity for an audience of 7500 people, the bullring of Navalcarnero, Madrid
(17,000 inhabitants) is not only designed for bullfights, but is also used for
sports and music events, as well as a convention centre. Also, it features
commercial areas and a museum dedicated to bulls.
The singularity of this bullring is that its lighting, air conditioning
and ventilation system uses a control system implemented by Electromontajes
Mendiola with ISDE products, an inmotics and domotics manufacturer, under the LonWorks
open and interoperable protocol.
Thanks to ISDEs solution, the Navalcarnero bullring will have energy
savings over 35% comparing with a similar enclosure without a distributed
control system. The capacity to control the switch on time of the air
conditioning equipment together with a higher use of natural light are
partially responsible for these savings, which besides benefiting the
municipality, contributes to the protection of the environment by considerably
reducing CO2 emissions to the athmosphere.
Other favourable consequences, due to the installation of automated
systems in the Navalcarnero bullring, can be summed up in the simplification of
the wiring, the easy maintenance of the installation and the increase in
comfort for the audience.
The circular architecture typical of bullrings was a handicap in the
integration of all installations (air conditioning, ventilation and lighting). The
installation of only one control bus, which covers the bullrings circumference
and transmits all necessary information for the control of the ring, has
avoided the installation of over 149 cables around the outer circumference,
which means a huge saving in wiring, besides making it easier to maintain
it in the future and possible repairs, explains Javier Bescós, Inmotics
Manager at ISDE, in detail.
Control system and air conditioning to meet CTE requirements
Lighting control is defined according to external light and a previously
set time schedule, reducing working hours for the staff in charge of managing
the room and avoiding waste in energy control.
The external light measuring system used to determine whether it is
necessary to light the bullring , is adjusted to the new energy efficiency European
regulation which is the basis for the Spanish Building Technical Code. On the other hand, there is an intelligent switch on management for air
conditioning equipment which makes it possible to avoid a voltage increase that
could leave the whole ring without energy supply. Following the same
sustainability criteria, different probes measure the temperature and control
the various heating and air conditioning machines.
Maintenance and security are reinforced with ISDEs solution, as the
enclosure features an alarm monitoring system for all its air conditioning
equipment to detect malfunctions and for predictive maintenance.
The advantage of working with open technology
As in all ISDEs solutions, products work under the LonWorks protocol, known
to be open and interoperable. The election of an open system allows for the
integration of all systems, while on the other hand ensures reliable and sobust
communication, delivering numerous orders sent one at a time, in the different
lighting, air conditioning and ventilation macros of the bullring: entry of the
audience in the ring, beginning of the event, clozing of the ring, nocturnal
festive illumination, etc.
Furthermore, the election of a LonWorks system ensures future
enlargement of the system and avoids the possible entertainment monopoly due to
the huge number of companies and manufacturers working under this protocol in
continuous technological progress.
