From Los Angeles to
Nashville, shipping heavy foodservice equipment from one point to another can
be a nightmare. McCall Refrigeration
has redesigned its packaging system to reduce product damage no matter how
bumpy the ride or how long the trip.
Pallet construction has been redesigned to provide increased support and
stability during the shipping process. In
addition, the new honeycomb vertical panels eliminate adjacent freight from
coming in contact with McCall equipment during the transportation process. Along with
strengthening the packaging materials to better protect products, McCalls
redesign incorporates a higher level of recyclable materials. The wood pallets are constructed out of recycled
materials utilizing only 10% of the content from virgin or non-recycled wood. The plastic used
to wrap the reach-ins can also be recycled, reveals the companys press release.
The outer recyclable corrugated carton
is manufactured with up to 35% recycled content; adhesives used in the
corrugating process are water soluble, making the carton very environmentally
friendly.
The
improved packaging system significantly reduces transportation and other
handling associated with the reshipment of replacement products and parts. Jon OHern, product manager for McCall, says: The redesign will
minimize inadvertent shifting of equipment in the shipping process, improve
ease of handling by carriers and distributors, reduce freight claims, and
ultimately get the reach-in to its destination with fewer shipping surprises
and less effects on the environment. |
