Thermokey presents new dry cooler and air cooled condenser with AFS PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 15 January 2007
Thermokey has developed a new Dry Cooler and Air Cooled Condenser series with an Air Fresh System (AFS). This system uses an adiabatic cooling effect  with a small water consumption thanks to special sprinklers that work with water pressures between 10 and 15 bar. The combination of highly pressurized water and the “misting” effect of the sprinklers is the innovative feature of this product, reveals the company's press release.
Thermokey’s Air Fresh System generates a water mist that is instantly absorbed by the air entering the heat exchanger reducing the air temperature by several degrees. Other systems are available on the market but with only water sprayed directly on a heat exchanger. With Thermokey’s AFS now dry coolers and condensers can achieve a guaranteed performance even when the air temperature is higher than the unit’s design temperature.

thermokeyThe sprinklers are made out of 8 easily accessed components including a syntherised filter which greatly simplifies maintenance.
The AFS is completely controlled by an electronic controller specifically designed for this type of application. The start up and stop of this system are determined by the set point of this system.
For Dry Coolers the controlling parameter is the outlet temperature of the secondary fluid (brine) while for condensers it is the condensing temperature or pressure.
The AFS is always supplied together with a fan speed control system to guarantee the best performance  during the whole part of the year and also during particular conditions that could hinder the performance of the heat exchanger during summertime.

Together with the AFS controller further modifications to the standard products have been introduced such as a high performance pump with a low flow rate for the sprinkler piping and automatically controlled vent and discharge solenoid valves. To reduce maintenance special Blue Fins are used on the heat exchangers to minimize the quantity of  water on the fins and reduce scale deposits for water with a hardness lower than 10 French degrees.
The reduced water consumption and reduced presence of water in the system, with no water left by, drastically reduce the risk associated with Legionella makes the ASF a secure and reliable system.
When necessary the installer can reduce the risk of Legionella by additionally installing a UV ray decontamination system and a water softening system  to reduce the presence of carbonates.
