To further optimize environmental performance, Armacell has now installed an innovative exhaust air combustion system at the company headquarters in Münster. The system, a regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO), purifies the exhaust air from the production through combustion. Due to the use of the latest technology, such as high-performance ceramic storage media in the system’s three regenerators, heat recovery rates of up to 98 % are achieved. The energy gained is used in the system to pre-heat the raw gas and accelerate the chemical process. According to the company’s press release, with this the largest environmental investment in the history of the company, measurable air pollutants are reduced by approximately 90 % and odour emissions are also lowered considerably.
