Ceres Power, an alternative energy
company, signed a new agreement with fuel cell specialist Calor Gas for residential combined heat and
power (micro-CHP) products operating on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Ceres and Calor intend to
maximise sales of the LPG CHP product by addressing not only the existing LPG
customers, but also to the substantial number of homes and small businesses
using oil, solid fuel or conventional electrical heating. According to the
company, these customers will be able to enjoy convenient, low carbon,
cost-competitive energy with this environmentally friendly product.
This relationship with
Calor builds on Ceres Powers experience in LPG and uses our core technology
platforms fuel flexibility to open up substantial new markets. This contract
helps further underpin our investment in the Mother Plant that will create new
skilled green collar jobs in the UK., said Peter Bance, CEO of Ceres Power.
The Ceres Power CHP product
will help accelerate a transition from dirty domestic fuels like heating oil,
to cleaner convenient fuels like LPG. We look forward to bringing this product
to residential and small business customers as part of our strategy to provide
green energy solutions to the rural market, added Stephen Rennie, Managing
Director of Calor.
The LPG CHP system will use the same core technology that Ceres Power has
developed as part of its existing mains natural gas CHP programme with British
Gas. It will generate electricity while also delivering all a home's heating
and hot water.
