The Institute of
Refrigeration, working with the Carbon Trust, has launched REAL Zero
Refrigerant Emission and Leakage Zero. The mail goal of this new service is to
help the industry improve system efficiency, reliability and reduce running
cost and environmental impact. The project represents the culmination not just
of a lot of research and analysis work, but also addresses some challenges and
obstacles to improving refrigeration technology for the public benefit.
The IOR project is based on investigations carried out
on sites with a variety of types of cooling systems. The results were analysed
to identify the main sources of refrigerant leakage and how these can be
reduced. Although the F-Gas Regulation requires equipment owners to
address leakage issues, it does not offer technical advice on how to prevent
leakage in existing or future systems.
According to the institutes
press release, taking steps to reduce leakage will now lead to cost savings,
improved reliability, improved efficiency and reduction of environmental
impact. The next presentations on the REAL Zero project will be given as
part of the Free seminar programme at the IOR launch seminar on 19th
February in London, and at the RAC Exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham (24th -
26th February).
