Is 410A slated to be replaced with something else in 2015? If so what is it going to be substituted with?

Is it feasible or cost effective to replace compressors on 28 year old residential condensing unit's with rusted out bottoms?

Now after you stop laughing I'll explain why I asked such a stupid question. the company that I work for does not want to foot the bill to to replace our old R-22 systems to 410A (once they fail). Someone told the brainless powers that be that 410a is going to be replaced by 2015 and that it was better to swap out the compressors and wait until then to change out the systems. I tried to plead my case but it fell on deaf ears. I was told that if i don't do it that they would hire someone who will! I need my job! Thanks for any sound guidance or advice and for letting me vent!

As it is right now, R410a is going to be the standard for quite some time. I have never heard of a "phaseout" of 410a, I googled it and didn't come up with anything. Also R 22 will still be around until 2020 why would 410a be replaced by 2015?

There are other refrigerants that can be used in place of 22 but there are drawbacks to each one.

You need to make him aware that by fixing those old 22 units he is doing your customers a disservice by not replacing them with 410a. At least give the customers a choice. My co. doesn't give them a choice and hasn't for a few years now, it has been all 410a for residential installs.
