Matching coil to oil heat pump 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Just had a new oil furnace and heatpump/ac installed. The contract specified a 3-ton heat pump and a 3-ton coil.

The part number on the coil, however, shows that I actually got a 4-ton coil.
Should I be concerned? Does the coil capacity need to match the heatpump/ac capacity?

I will call the contractor, but I don't have enough technical hvac knowledge and therefore would like to have some outside perspective before talking to the contractor.

All thoughts are welcomed and appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, a lot of heat pump units have a larger coil on the inside unit, especially if you are putting in a 14 SEER or above unit.

Very common. I've seen 4 ton coils that matched 2 1/2 ton heat pumps on the ARI match-up.
