fin damaged air cooled condenser maintenance 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Dear people:

I'll be trying to do some maintenance to a large air cooled condenser located less than a mile from the salty coast. This is a Cu/Al unit. The problem is that the fins are very brittle. Some of them almost dissapear in my hands as I touch them. Some spots of this condenser have their fins already missing, leaving the bare copper tubing behind. I'm afraid of even trying a plain water jet to wash its surface, since this might take away some more fins, agravating the alreday serious problem. What can be done in this case? Is steam cleanning an option ? Any suggestions welcomed.

Hi refpro021702

I'm afraid there is nothing else to do ... in these cases the condenser pins should have a special treatment called "fin guard silver" or be equipped with copper fins.

Dear James,
i have been met a problem like yours,
its coz corrosion by salt which contains in the air.
my trouble shooting is replace the fin with the new one.
and give it painting with the dove black colour.
it will reducing the corrosion.
and i have success with it.
