Advice on purchasing new thermostat 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Greetings.
I currently have 2 gas furnaces (1 upstairs, 1 down) and the same for a/c units. I am looking to buy a new thermostat for each (currently they are the old mercury type) but after looking on some websites, I see you can buy 3 heat/2 cool stage units or 1 heat/1 cool units.
Any easy way to know if I have a multi-stage unit vs single stage?

Thanks in advance

If it was electic heat with 20kw of heat and you did not want all 20 kw coming on, you could split it up to have 10kw come on first , it the tstat did not satisfy within a prescribed time the other 10 k would come on, with gas units ,some valves can be dual and you have low fire and high fire which would work basicly the same
