Spanish government approves the new buildings' energy efficiency certification |

The Spanish Ministers' Council has recently approved the Royal Order which launches the basic procedures for the Energy Efficiency Certification, announces IDAE (Spanish Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving) in a press release.
This regulation demands the energy certification of new or restored buildings from 2007 onwards, so it will not affect the existing buildings.
The approval of this Royal Order is one of the measures included in the Energy Efficiency Action and Saving Plan for the building sector in Spain and is also a partial transposition of the Directive 2002/91/CE regarding Buildings's Energy Efficiency. Moreover, it completes the new regulation framework about energy efficiency in buildings, which began recently with the approval of the Buildings Technical Code.
 Thanks to this new certification, consumers can now know the energy efficiency of buildings before buying or renting them. This certification will include an energy label, similar to the ones used in electrical appliances, cars or lamps. This label will be present in all the buildings' advertising materials.
Each building will have an energy class, according to a seven letter and colour scale: Class A for the most energy efficiency building and class G for the less efficient. The evaluation will be made according to the carbon dioxide emitted by the energy consumption of the heating, refrigeration, sanitary hot water and lighting installations. |
