Big Ass Fans, the leading manufacturer of huge ceiling fans for large industrial, agricultural, commercial and architectural settings, recently installed a 14-ft Big Ass Fan at the Duke Energy Pavilion, a 10,500 sq. ft. shelter used to house camp activities during adverse weather conditions. The goal of the project was to develop a sustainable design and to create innovative programs that teach campers about energy conservation.
Featuring a 14-ft Big Ass Fan, the Duke Energy Pavilion uses green building practices such as day lighting, natural ventilation, and renewable materials throughout the facilitys design. With no HVAC system in the pavilion, the 14-ft Big Ass Fan circulates air and cools the space year-round.
The Duke Energy Pavilion was designed by the firm C Design, Inc. and was the recipient of the 2009 WoodWorks® Wood Design Award. The inclusions of Big Ass Fans are an integral part to an award-winning sustainable design. The award recognizes creativity and innovation of projects by AIANC members that specify, design or build commercial, industrial and institutional projects with wood.
