The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), along with several French refrigeration
associations, was founded in 1908. 2008 will thus be the IIRs centenary and will
be called Refrigeration Year, with the approval of the French Ministry of
Culture and Communication.
It will mark an important milestone in the history of the IIR and intends to
celebrate 100 years of progress in the field of refrigeration, but also to
promote, among all stakeholders, the growing importance of this sector and
future technologies progress in the framework of sustainable development. Numerous
actions are planned in several countries, such as France,
the Netherlands and Serbia, which
are celebrating the centenaries of their national refrigeration associations
and organizing several events to celebrate this. In particular, a conference will be held on June 12, 2008, in Paris, at the
head office of the IIR and the birthplace of the first Congress in 1908. IIR
conferences, IIR co-sponsored conferences and trade shows will also provide
opportunities to celebrate this event throughout 2008. The first one,
Cryogenics 2008, will be held in Prague (Czech Republic) on April 21-25, 2008.
Refrigeration has a great future. Lets announce it over the world!
stated Didier Coulomb, IIR Director. According to the associations press
release, to do this numerous documents are also being prepared and
disseminated: a biography of Kamerlingh
Onnes, who was the first to liquefy helium in 1908 (in Dutch and English), the
proceedings of the 1908 Congress (in Serbian), a brochure presenting the
history and the state of the art and uses of refrigeration technology (in
French and English) and a video on research in progress (in French and
English). |
