Carrier helps reduce energy costs with its CO2OLtec refrigeration systems PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 01 March 2010

CO2OLtecDue to the German incentive program for commercial refrigeration systems using natural refrigerants, Carrier Corp., a world leader in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR), recently introduced the new CO2OLtecTM refrigeration systems.

According to the company’s press release, Carrier's CO2OLtec system is engineered for environmental sustainability, efficiency, and reliability and provides lifecycle cost savings in Central and Northern European climates versus systems using conventional refrigerant. Therefore, CO2OLtec installations have grown rapidly as more food retailers incorporate sustainable technologies in their stores.

Under the German incentive program, the total net investment cost of a supermarket refrigeration system can be reduced by 25 percent. EDEKA Hövener and HIT Koblenz are just two of the food retailers who took advantage of these savings, proving that this new CO2 refrigeration technology can be economically deployed.

"As a businessman, my decision to choose CO2 as a refrigerant was based on environmental aspects, and above all, the opportunity to save between 10 and 12 percent on energy costs," commented Heinz Hövener, owner of EDEKA Hövener. "The use of CO2 as a refrigerant is environmentally sustainable, safe and energy-efficient. In addition, greenhouse gas emissions, caused by refrigerants, can be completely avoided when climate-neutral refrigerant is used, compared to conventional systems," said Lothar Klopsch, CEO of sales, HIT Handelsgruppe Siegburg.
