"The demand for sustainable buildings is not just growing, its exploding" said CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) Chief
Executive Officer, Stephen Matthews at the launch of the Institution's
new guide to sustainability which he described as "one of the most
important and far reaching guides ever to be released by the
institution".
Launched at day two of the CIBSE National
Conference in London, one of the guide's authors, Miles Attenborough,
Regional Director at Faber Maunsell, set out the 'sustainable policy
agenda': what it means in terms of new rules and responsibilities; the
role of design principles and how to develop sustainable strategies for
energy, waste and water. According to the institution's press release,
Guide L is expected to have a far-reaching appeal, particularly as
energy prices and the imminent energy performance certification of
buildings have dramatically increased interest in energy savings.
"We need a built
environment that provides shelter, comfort and healthy places to live
and work, but has far less impact on the natural environment. Guide L
will help engineers to tackle these problems and improve the
environmental performance of buildings", said Stephen Matthews. |
