On 27 September at the Atmosphere 2010 event, the European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE) presented the findings of an eco-efficiency study carried out by the independent British consultants SKM Enviros.
The study evaluated the current and future relative performance of CO2 and HFC-based supermarket refrigeration systems in terms of both financial and environmental parameters on a life-cycle basis. It clearly demonstrated that there is a role to play in refrigeration for reduced and low-global-warming potential fluids and blends.
The study took into account direct and indirect emissions over the entire life-cycle to achieve the ultimate goal of reducing the climate impact of supermarket refrigeration systems. Keeping refrigerant choice is essential for innovation that contributes to the continuous reduction of the climate impact of refrigeration systems summarised Andrea Voigt, EPEEs Director General.
