Aiming at remembering and honoring the pioneers of the refrigeration and
air-conditioning industry in Brazil, the 15th
edition of Febrava International
Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning, Heating and Air Treatment Trade Fair hosted
the 100 Years of HVACR in Brazil iniciative. It was celebrated at the Thermal Comfort
Island, one of the eight Theme Islands
featured in the event, which took place on September 18th 21st at the Imigrantes Exhibition Center.
According
to the event organizers press release, visitors were able to see panels,
photos and equipment of the time illustrating 100 years of existence and
evolution of the Brazilian HVACR industry. Some of the most interesting items were
refrigerants sold in cans in the 1950s, the first air-conditioners, the
evolution of refrigerators, compressors, valves, and temperature timers turned
on with a mechanical rope.
"We also had the original technical manuals in English and Abrava
and Sindratar documents, which were very important in training engineers and experts
at the time", declared Cristiane Di Rienzo, event organizer, journalist
and author of the book
Refrigeration and
Air-Conditioning Memory in Brazil A History to be Told, launched by Sindratar
in 2005.
