In the context of
Romanias integration in the European Union, the Chamber of Commerce
and Industry of Romania is preparing the countrys business sector for the adoption of EU norms. With an annual economic growth of 6.5%, less trade barriers through EU
membership, high investments in road infrastructure, and a growing population
that is consuming more convenience foods, logistics is a booming business in
Romania, reveals Cold Store Design.
Industrial parks with
logistics as the main component are being constructed at such a great pace, particularly around Bucharest
and Timisoara, that a shortage of construction
professionals is threatening. Many
well-known international companies are already based in/near the Romanian
capital, but the number of logistic service providers dedicated to chilled and
frozen products is remarkably low. Romanian retailers are having trouble
getting fruits and vegetables delivered to their stores and at the moment most retailers handle transportation
themselves. But they would rather concentrate on their
core business and outsource storage and transportation. This offers
opportunities for international logistic service providers.
Retailers like Auchan
and Carrefour have dedicated providers, but the needs of importers, agents,
wholesalers, manufacturers and processors cannot be met. Real estate developers
have plans for cold stores and distribution center networks that can service
Bucharest and 6 to 8 other major Romanian cities. These plans are aimed at primary and secondary
distribution of chilled an frozen foods. |
