Kavlico combined pressure temperature R744 systems Kavlico, a leading manufacturer of specialty sensors and transducers for the transportation, industrial and aerospace & defense markets, announced its newly released combined pressure & temperature sensor for use with the natural refrigerant R744 (C02) for pressure & temperature sensing in mobile air conditioning systems. By replacing ozone depleting or global warming refrigerants with R744, global greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced significantly. Kavlico’s new sensor fits this newly-created niche by delivering a technically-capable product that meets its “green” initiative.

This rugged, low-cost sensor has a hermetically sealed stainless housing. The sense element is based upon Kavlico’s patented TiON (Titanium OxyNitride) thin film technology which is capable of withstanding high media temperatures. The sensor’s high operating pressure range of 0 to 150 Bar with a proof pressure of 210 Bar and a burst pressure of 320 Bar is well-suited for this demanding application, reveals the company’s press release. The operating process media temperature range is -40°C to +180°C, while the ambient operating temperature is -40°C to +135°C. Highly stable and accurate, the sensor can be specified with either an analog, SPI, LIN2.0, or CANbus output. The sensor tolerates high vibration environments and has built-in reverse polarity protection as well as extremely good over-voltage protection. The innovative metal-injection-molded (MIM) design allows for a reduced package size that is light in weight and easy to install. Additionally, the sensor does not use an external probe for measuring temperature. RoHS compliant, this sensor meets the EU directives for electrical and electronic equipment for a greener environment.
